How do I apply for the Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program?

The application process has two steps:

  1. Complete fields on the Apply page – at the end of the form, you will upload one letter of recommendation (as a PDF file).
  2. Review internship opportunities on the Internships page – for each internship you are interested in applying for, submit required materials directly on the individual internship page. You can apply to any internship as long as you meet the required qualifications.
Is housing provided?

Housing is not provided, which means Fellows are responsible for securing housing in Greensboro for the duration of the internship/Fellows Program.

Is transportation required?

This depends on which internship you have – please review each internship posting for more information on transportation needs.

Who do I contact with questions or for more information?

Please contact Beth Mannella, Fellows Program Director, at bmannella@actiongreensboro.org or 336-387-8358.

As an intern, who do I report to?
  • At the internship site, you will have an internship coordinator/supervisor(s).
  • As a Fellow, the Fellows Program Director will serve as an additional point of contact.
Is my internship going to be paid?

Our goal with the Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program is to offer local college students a 10-week program with high-quality, local, paid internships. We have secured internship opportunities that will provide you with high-touch industry experience, as well as paying you (payment varies – see internship descriptions for details).

What is “be a tourist in your own city” about?

As a Fellow, you are in the Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Program cohort with other local college students (36 students were in the 2016 cohort and 53 students were in the 2017 cohort). The Fellows Program Director will implement professional development opportunities throughout the summer, as well as community events throughout Greensboro. Greensboro has so much to offer to community members, and as a Fellow, the opportunities will be even easier to access and experience.

Are there assignments throughout the Fellows program/my internship?
  • The two-day Leonard Kaplan Leadership Institute at the Center for Creative Leadership is required as part of the Fellows Program. Your internship site supervisor(s) is aware of this commitment to your personal and professional development.
  • Professional Development sessions and networking events (Mentor dinner, Welcome Reception, and Closing Reception) throughout the summer will be required, as these are for your personal and professional development.
  • The Program Director will complete internship site visits throughout the summer to ensure the internship responsibilities and environment are conducive for you to gain industry knowledge, skills, and experiences.
